Kula Lotrščak (Lotrščak Tower) is one of the most iconic landmarks in Zagreb, Croatia, and a key part of the city’s medieval fortifications. Located in the historic Upper Town (Gornji Grad), the tower was built in the 13th century to guard the southern gate of the town’s defenses. Its name, Lotrščak, is derived from the word “lotri” or “thieves,” as the tower was used to sound a bell at night to signal the closing of the city gates, ensuring that all citizens were inside and preventing thieves from entering.
