Deep within the sacred grounds of Fushimi Inari Taisha, the Senbon Torii—literally “a thousand torii gates”—forms one of Japan’s most iconic and mystical sights. These bright vermilion gates, standing close together in long, winding rows, create a mesmerizing tunnel that leads visitors up the wooded slopes of Mount Inari, just south of central Kyoto.
