Ta’ Pinu Basilica – Malta
Ta’ Pinu Basilica – Gozo’s Spiritual Sanctuary
Rising majestically in the countryside of Gozo, Malta, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta’ Pinu is a place of pilgrimage, faith, and architectural beauty. With its stunning Romanesque design, breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, and deep spiritual significance, it stands as one of Malta’s most revered religious sites.
The origins of Ta’ Pinu date back to a small 16th-century chapel, but the site gained national importance in 1883 when a local woman, Karmni Grima, reported hearing the voice of the Virgin Mary calling her to pray. This event led to widespread devotion, and by 1920, a grand Neo-Romanesque basilica was built, completed in 1931.
Visitors to Ta’ Pinu can admire its intricately carved stonework, stunning mosaics, and serene interior, while the surrounding open countryside offers a peaceful place for reflection. Pilgrims often leave tokens of gratitude in the chapel, marking the site as a place of miracles and answered prayers.
Our Tiny Planet artwork of Ta’ Pinu Basilica captures its majestic architecture and sacred presence in a stunning 360-degree perspective.
