The Trevi Fountain – Rome
The Trevi Fountain – Rome’s Baroque Masterpiece of Wishes
The Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) is one of Rome’s most breathtaking landmarks, a symbol of Baroque elegance, mythology, and timeless tradition. Designed by Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762, this magnificent fountain stands 26 meters (85 feet) high and 49 meters (161 feet) wide, making it the largest and most famous fountain in Rome.
At the heart of the fountain is the majestic statue of Oceanus, the god of all waters, riding a shell-shaped chariot pulled by two sea horses, each guided by a Triton. One horse is calm, the other restless, symbolizing the changing moods of the sea. The intricate marble sculptures and cascading turquoise waters create a breathtaking spectacle, attracting millions of visitors every year.
Legend says that if you throw a coin over your left shoulder into the fountain, you are guaranteed to return to Rome. This tradition has made the Trevi Fountain one of the most wished-upon places in the world, with thousands of euros collected daily and donated to charity.
Whether visiting at sunset when the golden light enhances its beauty, or at night when it is magically illuminated, the Trevi Fountain is a must-see icon of the Eternal City.
