Changdeokgung Palace – The Harmonious Jewel of Joseon Seoul
Changdeokgung Palace, located in eastern Soul, is a masterpiece of harmony between architecture and nature. Built in 1405 počas Dynastia Čoson, it served as a primary royal residence for over 300 years and is widely regarded as the most beautiful and well-preserved of Korea’s Five Grand Palaces. Recognized as a Pamiatka svetového dedičstva UNESCO, Changdeokgung is treasured for its organic design that flows effortlessly with the surrounding landscape.
Unlike the formal symmetry of Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung follows the natural contours of the hills and forest. Key structures like Injeongjeon Hall (the throne hall), Seonjeongjeon Hall (the king’s office), and Huijeongdang (the king’s residence and council chamber) are arranged asymmetrically, creating a feeling of calm and natural rhythm throughout the complex.
But perhaps the palace’s most enchanting feature is the Huwon, alebo Secret Garden—a 78-acre royal retreat filled with ancient trees, lotus ponds, pavilions, and walking paths. Once used for study, rest, and ceremonies, this hidden garden remains one of Seoul’s most peaceful and magical spots, especially stunning in spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage.
