Changgyeonggung Palace – A Quiet Royal Retreat in the Heart of Seoul
Tucked away in the bustling city of Soul, Palác Changgyeonggung is a peaceful and historically rich royal residence that dates back to the 15. storočie. Originally built by King Sejong for his father, King Taejong, the palace was intended as a place of comfort and respect for elder royals. Over time, it became one of the main palaces used by the queens and concubines of the Joseon Dynasty.
Changgyeonggung is known for its intimate scale, understated elegance, and graceful architecture. Unlike the grandiosity of Gyeongbokgung, this palace invites a slower, more reflective walk through history. Its Brána Honghwamun, Hala Myeongjeongjeon (the main throne hall), and Haminjeong Pavilion are all beautifully preserved examples of traditional Korean wooden architecture, surrounded by tranquil courtyards and pine-covered paths.
One of the palace’s most unique features is the Rybník Chundangji, a wide lotus-filled lake added during later renovations. In the early 20th century, during Japanese occupation, the palace grounds were temporarily turned into a zoo and botanical garden—a chapter that adds to its complex history. Today, the site has been restored to its original dignity, offering a quiet yet powerful atmosphere that reflects centuries of royal life.
