Senbon Torii – The Thousand Gates of Spiritual Passage at Fushimi Inari
At the foot of Kyoto’s Berget Inari, the famed Senbon Torii—meaning “a thousand torii gates”—forms one of Japan’s most mesmerizing and sacred pathways. Part of the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, this tunnel of vibrant vermilion grindar stretches along the forested trails behind the shrine, creating a winding corridor of color, shadow, and silence.
Each gate has been donated by individuals, families, or businesses in gratitude or prayer for blessings, with names inscribed in black kanji on every post.
